As the United States and other countries grapple with the issue of same-sex marriage, a new Pew Research Center survey finds huge variance by region on the broader question of whether homosexuality should be accepted or rejected by society. The survey of publics in 39 countries finds broad acceptance of homosexuality in North America, the European Union, and much of Latin America, but equally widespread rejection in predominantly Muslim nations and in Africa, as well as in parts of Asia and in Russia.

Movimiento Maricas Bolivia MMB is a project run by Edgar Soliz Guzmán and Roberto Condori, with twelve years of work behind them. It was founded in May 17, with the broadcasting of its first radio program called Soy Marica y Qué — , broadcast through Radio Deseo in the city of La Paz. LGBTQ rights in Bolivia Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights in Bolivia have expanded significantly in the 21st century. Both male and female same-sex sexual activity and same-sex civil unions are legal in Bolivia. The Bolivian Constitution bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. I wasn't shocked that roadside prostitutes in Cochabamba, Bolivia were taunted by passers-by; this was still-macho, provincial Latin America after all. But nothing could have prepared me for the strength of character of these transgender sex workers who, against all odds, have organized to argue for their right to health care treatment -- and, more important, their rights as human beings. I lived in Cochabamba, the third largest city in Latin America's poorest country, this past summer in between my junior and senior years at University of San Francisco, through a program with the Foundation for Sustainable Development.
